If you only need a sample from 18 feet, why bother with retrieving the soil from the first 17 feet? The Solid Point Tip plunges immediately to the desired depth without filling the sampling tube. To retrieve a sample from the bottom of the hole, replace the solid tip with a standard or wet soils tip and reenter the hole.
